8u Bombers Finish Strong

August 4 – O’Fallon, MO – In what seemed like the longest Spring / Summer season of all time, the 8u-Ashby Bombers put an exclamation point on a wonderful season last night.

Having not played or practiced in almost two weeks, the 8u Bombers came out focused and ready to play as they looked to finish the season with a perfect 12-0 record.

The Bombers had already clinched their spot atop the OCAC regular season standings by virtue of defeating St. Paul a few weeks ago, but that didn’t stop the Bombers from finishing what they started back in January during the team’s Winter Warm-up practices.

8u_GameBalls_Game12The goal for the season was simply to get better each and every practice and each and every game and have a lot of fun along the way. The Bombers performance last night showcased the hard work and commitment these 14 boys put forth over the last 8 months.

The Bombers scored in every inning, tallying the maximum 5 runs in 4 consecutive innings to finish the game. Carter A. and Zeke B. led the team with 4 hits apiece, but it was Grayson C. and Conner C. who led the offensive effort for the Bombers.  Both players were one hit away from the cycle with Grayson C. only needing a single to go with his double, triple and home run and Conner C. missing a triple to complete the cycle.

Grayson C. and Nate E. each tallied 4 RBI on the evening with Hayden H. adding 3 more of his own as he went 3 for 3 on the night.

While the story of the night may appear to be an explosive offensive effort by the Bombers, it8u_Bombers_PostGame_3 was their defense that spoke most loudly to the competition.  After getting 4 runs in the top of the 1st, the Bombers took the field and proceeded to shut down the Hornets offense with great defense. After a lead off single to start the half inning, the Hornets were unable to get a runner to second base, being forced out on three consecutive plays. Two ground balls to Conner C. at shortstop and a great backhanded snag by Carter A. at third base set the stage for what would be a fun night at Westhoff Field #2.
